Astrid – excessively French and upper middle-class – and her future husband, the Scottish Patrick, celebrate their engagement in a classy restaurant in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. But the party quickly turns bitter: Dan, travelling from London, gets there late, Berenice is upset by Astrid's remarks, and the future husband has his mind on other matters, while Dorothy is hiding a secret that could send their world up in flames.
